Architect Peter Hemingway won the Massey Medal for this mid-century structure made from wood, concrete, steel, cables and glass, tucked into Coronation Park. The building is currently closed for renos until 2026, when it will reopen alongside a brand new velodrome. You can still visit the outside and patiently wait for the day when you can go for a swim in the public pool and enjoy the building from the inside too.

While you're at the park, make sure to marvel at the Edmonton Space Science Centre, which was designed by Indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal. Around the corner, there is also the restored Queen Elizabeth II Planetarium to take a peek at.
